ACADEMIC EVENT SECTION

#1: Career opportunities in the EU

Career diplomat Eva Horelová, Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic will share her experience about career opportunities in EU institutions. The discussion will, among other things, include postings in the USA and Turkey. The presentation and discussion, open to all Faculty of Social Sciences students, will take place on the Jinonice campus, room C117 on November 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.

#2: New Eastern Europe Winter School 2023 – Think Tanks for Resilient Democracies

Young researchers, academics, and students will join a week-long course that starts on December 3, 2023, in Poznan, Poland, and finishes on December 9, 2023, in Berlin, Germany. The school will offer a number of meetings, workshops, and cultural events aimed at acquiring an understanding of how think tanks work, what their role is in building resilient democracies, and gaining experience from a Central European perspective.

#3: Fall Conference – Sanctions against Russia: taking stock (almost) after two years

Peace Research Center Prague and the Faculty of Social Sciences organize a discussion related to the political, practical, and legal impacts of the sanctions against Russia after almost two years. The event is moderated by Michal Onderco, Professor of International Relations at Erasmus University. Former Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia and Economic Advisor in Ukraine Ivan Mikloš and Professor of Political Science at the University of Valencia Clara Portela will be among the participants of the discussion. The event will take place on November 13, 2023, in room C117 on the Jinonice campus from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. For more information visit the PRCP website.

#1: Day of Freedom and Democracy

Let’s celebrate the Day of Freedom and Democracy along with International Student Day. On Friday, November 17, 2023, you are welcome to join celebrations organized directly by Charles University.

#2: Petr Brandl – The Story of a Bohemian

Get to know the work and life of one of the greatest baroque artists in Bohemia. Monumental altarpieces, portraits as well as genre paintings are being displayed at Waldstein Riding School. The exhibition lasts until February 2024. For more info visit the web pages of National Gallery.

#1: Brussels Field Trip

The 2023 edition of the Brussels Field Trip takes place on November 20-21, 2023. The BFT is organized only for 1st-year students. The EPS compulsory classes will be canceled for the dates of November 20-22. The detailed information and programme will be shared with participants via email later.

#2: Barcelona Research Seminar

The 2023 edition of the Barcelona Research Seminar takes place on January 17-18, 2024. The event will gather all 2nd-year students of the EPS programme studying at all partner universities. You will get further instructions in your email boxes in the upcoming weeks.

#1: Leadership Skills for Collaboration and Dialogue

The workshop is underway and its participants are devoting themselves to developing their leadership abilities, argumentation, and comprehension skills.

#2: Best Thesis Award Results

The winner of the 2023 Best Thesis Award is Carl Schüppel, with a thesis titled Nationality Matters: How Members of the European Parliament Decide on the Citizens’ Petitions. See the details on the EPS website. Congratulations to the winner and thank all contestants for their participation!

When will EPS graduates have the final ceremony at Charles University?

The date of the final graduation ceremony at CU has already been settled to March 20, 2024, (time TBC) so you might put it on your agenda! The event takes place in the Great Hall of Karolinum, the oldest building of Charles University from the 14th century.
