#1: Gender and International Criminal Law

A conference aimed at exploring the most important issues that determine the boundaries of gender justice in international criminal law is organized in collaboration with the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, together with other organizations focused on gender justice. The two-day conference will present key factors in the field of gender justice, share knowledge, and inspire practical solutions. #2: Book launch: ‘Making the European Green Deal Work – EU Sustainability Policies at Home and Abroad’

The event is being organized by the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES). The book critically analyzes different dimensions of the sustainable transitions outlined by the European Green Deal. The book launch will take place online on Zoom on January 18, 2024 at 5 p.m. The editors of the book will participate in the discussion. #3: In the Making 2: Etienne Kallos, Searching for a Diasporic Time Image.

One of the public series, “In the Making,” resulted from a collaboration between The Academy of Creative and Performing Arts of Leiden University and West Den Haag Art Institute. Art, in its specific forms, reflects the world we live in. Different practices of research that preceded artistic expression will be presented in six sessions. Artist researchers will present their projects and approaches to research, methods, and results. In this session, filmmaker Etienne Kallos will explore the role of the diasporic body in relation to the cinema. #1: Annual Ball of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University

Please accept an invitation to the traditional ball of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The ball will take place on February 29, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the historical premises of the National House at Vinohrady. The program will offer the opportunity to listen to live music, dance, and meet with your colleagues from the university on the occasion of a traditional gala evening. #2: Jagiellonian University New Year’s Concert

Enjoy performances of musicians from the Kraków Opera, JU Academic Choir Camerata Jagellonica and many others and celebrate the New Year on the traditional cultural event. The concert is in the university Auditorium Maximum on January 14, 2024. The concert starts at 6 p.m., and the tickets can be purchased online.


#1: Europaeum 2024 Spring School: Making Sense of Turbulent Times

The twenty-first century can be considered a period of turbulence defined by many critical moments. If turbulence is a natural state of things, then it brings not only a threat to society but also an opportunity. How this opportunity can be incorporated into society is a crucial question. Applicants from master’s and doctoral candidates are invited to participate in the Europaeum 2024 Spring School: Making Sense of Turbulent Times that will take place at Oxford University from April 17 to April 20, 2024. The participants are welcome to present a paper focused especially on the following topics: war and conflict, media, politics and elections, migration, and health humanities. #2: Rethinking Area Studies for the 21st Century

A workshop on the contemporary purpose and practice of the discipline will take place on May 20-21, 2024, in Prague. The event is organized by the Institute of International Studies, Charles University, and you can send your proposals via Google by January 20, 2024; more information regarding the workshop can be found here.

#3: Acta Politologica

International journal Acta Politologica invites all the members of the academic community to submit an abstract of the manuscript on the theme Digitalization of Political Parties: Challenges and Solutions, covering various issues related to the digitalization of political parties. We encourage you to submit papers on the following four themes: Financial challenges connected with digitalization, lack of in-house expertise in digital trends inside of the political parties, member training and digital literacy, and finally, the impact of digitalization on internal party democracy. If you are interested in publishing in the special issue, address the abstract of the intended article to the editors ( in the range of 250 to 500 words no later than February 7, 2024. The EPS Team will present the programme via online Open Day on January 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. EPS students and alumni will share their experiences, and all participants in this event will have a chance to present their inquiries regarding the programme. #2: Master’s Open Day Leiden University

Get to know Leiden University’s master’s programmes and the career opportunities it brings. Get a glimpse of the university buildings and cities of Leiden and the Hague. Master’s Open Day on campus takes place on February 16, 2024. There will also be a chance to attend an online open day (a precise date will be specified).

#3: Barcelona Research Seminar

The 2024 edition of the Barcelona Research Seminar takes place on January 17-18, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. on January 17. The event will gather all 2nd-year students of the EPS programme studying at all partner universities.

#1: Christmas meet-up

Before Christmas the first-year students and teachers had a chance to informally meet at the Jinonice campus premises. We want to thank all the students and teachers who participated in such a pleasant occasion.

The Polish born novelist wrote stories reflecting the contemporary situation of the peak of the British Empire. In his work he depicted imperialism, colonialism and movements of the human psyche. In the classical novel Heart of Darkness reader can follow a seaman traveling up the Congo River into the African interior. On his journey, the main character, Charles Marlow, encounters the harsh realities of imperialism, human cruelties and madness. Accept the invitation and sink into the depths of human nature.
