ACADEMIC EVENT SECTION#1: What Trump’s Return Means for EuropeIn November 2024, former President Donald Trump became the President-Elect of the USA. Since then, the debate over what a Trump 2.0 administration would mean at home and abroad has intensified. We would most happily welcome you to the event on December 13, 2024, from 3:15 p.m. in room 2.06 of the Lipsius building of Leiden University.  The event has been organized by the MA European Politics and Society degree programme and the History and International Studies section in the Institute for History, Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University. In the roundtable, speakers will focus on the implications of Trump’s return to Europe. 
#2: Book Launch – Working for the EU: How To Get InUACES (University Association for Contemporary European Students) invites you to an online book launch of Johannes de Berlaymont’s (AKA Martin Westlake) latest book ‘Working for the EU: How To Get In.’ This UACES ‘Spotlight On’ event, moderated by UACES patron Paul Adamson, will occur online on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 3 p.m. If you want to gain a deeper insight into how to work for the European Union, click here to register for the event.
#3: The Future of EU EnlargementThe Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) invites you to an online discussion dealing with EU enlargement from the point of view of Austria, Finland, and Sweden. The enlargement is a major issue on the EU agenda these days. However, different Member States continue to have diverging preferences, priorities, and concerns regarding the enlargement process. The TEPSA, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), and the Austrian Society for European Politics (ÖGfE)/Europa Club Wien, bring together experts from Austria, Finland, and Sweden to discuss the three countries’ views on EU enlargement in a dedicated online discussion on December 5, 2024, at 9:30 CET / 10:30 EET. The event will be hosted on Zoom and livestreamed on TEPSA’s YouTube channel.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL EVENT SECTION Caspar David Friedrich – The PainterVisit the Albertinum Gallery of Dresden and enjoy the landscape paintings of genius romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich. Their vibrant colors, his enigmatic rendering of light, and his depiction of vast horizons have influenced our view of nature. Paintings derive their remarkable luminosity from subtle transparency in the application of paint and its fascinating nuances. In the Albertinum, Friedrich’s works are juxtaposed with important landscape paintings from the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister Dresden. The exhibition lasts only until January 5, 2025. It is highly recommended to book your tickets online
CALL#1: Full-time Ph.D. student position for ERC-funded projectThe Peace Research Center Prague (PRC Prague) is offering a paid full-time position with a starting date of September 1, 2025, for a Ph.D. student in the European Research Council´s project ´Microcode: Exploring the Role of Public Opinion in Military Alliances.´ The application deadline is January 6, 2024. #2: Oxford Spring School 2025Resistance and resilience are two intertwined concepts gaining increasing prominence in academic discourse and public consciousness. These concepts are the theme of the 2025 edition of the Spring School that will occur from March 17 to 20, 2025. Applications from second-year EPS students who wish to either just join the discussions or present a 15-minute paper based on their research are welcome. PUBLICATIONSRussia’s war on Ukraine: unbottled emotions and the conditioning of the EU’s Russia policyWhen Dr. David, the Coordinator of the MA EPS programme at Leiden University, visited Charles University in the autumn of 2023, she gave a guest lecture on Emotions in EU Foreign Policy, in preparation for which students read a draft of an article she was co-authoring with a Russian colleague. The article ´Russia’s War on Ukraine: Unbottled Emotions and the Conditioning of the EU’s Russia Policy´ has been published in the Journal of European Integration, 46(5),  and is available for open access.
IMPORTANT DATES#1: Christmas meet-upAll EPS students in Prague are cordially invited to participate in an informal Christmas meet-up. The event will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 2 to approx. 4.00 p.m. at Jinonice campus, room B103b. Small refreshments will be prepared, and you can look forward to savoring traditional Czech Christmas cookies.
#2: Barcelona Research SeminarThe 2025 edition of the Barcelona Research Seminar takes place on January 22-24, 2025, and will gather all 2nd-year students of the EPS programme studying at all partner universities. You will get further instructions in your email boxes in the upcoming weeks. The deadline for submitting your videos is January 10, 2025. Let us remind you that travel and accommodation are arranged and covered by students.

If you are going to submit the thesis in early January, please share your plans with us via EPS email (if you have already not done so). The EPS deadline for all EPS students registered in the regular study period is June 16, 2025, applying to all partner universities.
