Julian Theseira, our 2nd-year student of the EPS Programme participated in COP27 (the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC). As for his acquired role, Julian was a member of the COP27 delegation of the Climate Action Network (CAN), a global network of more than 1,800 civil society organizations in over 130 countries driving collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and to achieve social and racial justice. At COP27 in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Julian primarily tracked negotiations on the Global Stocktake (GST), the evaluation and ambition mechanism of the Paris Agreement, as well as on the COP27 cover decision, the Sharm-el-Sheikh Implementation Plan. Julian also carried out advocacy with country delegations, wrote articles for the CAN ECO COP27 newsletter, and spoke at a side event about the GST.
At the same time, Julian is interning with AMO (Association for International Affairs). During his internship, he recently wrote the following article on China at COP27: “Loss and Damage” and Fossil Fuels Take Center Stage. Within his publications, he also wrote another article on COP27 and Southeast Asia: Loss and Damage, Fossil Fuels, and Just Transition published by the Heinrich Boell Stiftung Southeast Asia Office.
We are very enthusiastic about students’ experiences!
Do not hesitate to take advantage of all possible opportunities as Julian has been and share it with the EPS community! Feel free to send your testimonies and experience to eps@fsv.cuni.cz.
